Calming down and rethinking things. aka Nightdive Rant FOLLOW-UP

Ugh... So after some discussions with friends, I feel like I owe an explantation to everybody who may have seen my rant article about game remasters and Nightdive Studios.

I think I've might've been TOO negative about the rant and it came across as me acting pouty. Outside of writing that rant in the middle of the night, what stemmed from why I felt that way might be because...

I might be having a 'perfectionst' mindset.

Look.. I grew up playing original versions of games. This kind of influenced me to playthrough games on their original hardware when possible, you may have watched one of my videos as of late right? Look at my videos about Quiver and Duke Nukem 3D, most of the footages were from when I played through them on intended hardware given I have a working machine closest to whatever experience some people may have had when they played those games back in the day. Whenever I try to play a remaster of a game for whatever reason, I just help that something is off for some reason.

I remember somebody from my server suggesting that I play games like Killing Time and PO'ed via the Nightdive Remaster but I kept complaining that it's not accurate, why should I bother when I can just play the original versions? I just care a lot about accuracy when it came to playing these games, which is why I don't prioritize remasters outside of exclusive content and maybe modding support (where at times the original game doesn't).

Because I crave accuracy over convenience, this led to me having these high expectations whenever a remaster gets announced, which was why I may have overhyped myself regarding Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition. Admittedly, it's a decent remaster despite my issues with it. The level editor even helped contribute to the development of Dakkijam: The Precursor, because it was more convenient to work on unlike downloading some DOS/Win16 level editor for the game itself with some things that doesn't aged well and makes things a bit difficult to work with. It's one of the reasons why I don't like working with the BUILD Map Editor at times.

That's where a remaster tends to shine, but not only that but...

It redrums interest.

That's one strong point about remasters is not only accessibility towards modern systems, but the fact that the remaster happened at all. New people are going to see this and if anything likely be curious about what the game was like and why some people enjoyed the game back in the day. I may have stated in the DOOM + DOOM II video that it's about as close to a definitive way to play the original Doom (none of these GZDoom mods and what not) on not only modern PCs but also on game consoles as well.

When ROTT:LE came out and I formed ROTT Central in the process, it got some people over and played a part of influencing people to make source ports or other things for the game. We have people trying to refine old Doom wads to fit in with the re-release labeling these as "Bethesda Edition" and I have a friend trying to work on a source port for ROTT.

I let my negativity get to me.

Because of my 'perfectionist' mindset and my high expectations, I let these issues about a remaster affect me. Which probably let to a build up of frustration and anger for many months. While I kind of do stand on some of the things I said, like how certain content creators having a tendency to rush out content in the name of "YouTube Al Gore Rythem" and as a result saying things that are just inaccurate as all hell. Gmanlives is a pure example of this when he made a video about the Unity Remaster of Doom and complained about some things to the point that even people like Doomkid called him out over it and as a result, the video was gone. When I get something wrong and I somehow find out for myself what went wrong, I owe up to it. Nobody is perfect, but that's beside the point.

I don't see myself touching a remaster as much anymore. Well that is unless somebody gifted me the game or I get it as part of a very cheap bundle, I might check it out here and there but I don't think making game overviews/reviews by playing the remaster would make me satisfied in the end. That's just how I work as a person. I hope this clears the air about things that led to my ranting. I have some more articles planned in the future so stay tuned for that.
